Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is a discipline of modern health care pertaining to mechanical disorders of one's musculoskeletal system with an emphasis on the spine. Although generally acknowledged as an alternative medicine, chiropractic care is one of the most sought complimentary treatments in the world.

Chiropractors may share many attributes with primary care providers, but their practice is much more like dentistry or podiatry in that it maintains a focus on a limited aspect of the human body. Chiropractic care consists of manual therapies including manipulation of the spine, vertebrae, and soft tissues to relax muscles and discomfort. Chiropractors are often consulted for health and lifestyle counseling.

Traditionally chiropractic care assumes dysfunction along the spine results in an imbalance in the body's innate intelligence and can cause a wide range of side effects. This theory often brings ridicule from mainstream medicine. Despite this, chiropractic care is one of the most scientifically sustained alternative medicines in existence.

Broken into two basic categories, chiropractic care has two groups; "straights," who believe spinal subluxations to be the leading cause of all disease and emphasize vitalism and spinal adjustments, and "mixers" who openly recognize mainstream and alternative techniques to include exercise, massage, and nutrition.

Chiropractic care has a proven effect on patients to relieve discomfort and pain related to the spine and can be seen as an extension of sports medicine related to human mechanics and locomotion.
